Hurricanes, Hospitals, and Hope

Hurricane Sally is swirling in the Gulf and yet my mind is at rest. I can’t stop the storm. I can’t stop the wind and rain from coming to Louisiana where I am. I can’t stop the wind and rain from going to Mississippi where my kids are. I can’t stop the wind and rain from going to Alabama where my extended family is. But, I have access to the one who has all authority. “Even the winds and waves obey him.” (Matthew 8:23-27)

At the same time that “Sally” is moving at the command of God I am sitting in a hospital where my youngest daughter was taken back for another major surgery, yet my mind is at rest. I can’t stop pain from happening to her. I can’t straighten her back and adjust her foot. I can’t bring her body permanent healing and cause her to walk again. But, I have access to the great physician. One day, with a glorified body in Heaven she will walk again. For in that day there will be “No more pain.” (Revelation 21:1-4)

Whether you are in the path of a tropical storm or in the pain of a technical surgery, find your hope in the Lord. He knows more than the meteorologists because He controls all of nature. He is wiser than doctors because He created the body. So, we trust in Him who rules it all. My hope is in the Lord. (Isaiah 40:31, Proverbs 3:5-6)
