Bravery and Faith

Childlike faith is something we as Christians always aim for. We want to be ones that believe what we do not see and trust when we do not have all the answers. I have watched that kind of blind faith in action over the last few days in a unique way. My son, Zeke, has accomplished all kinds of firsts in just 3 short days. His first restaurant, first hotel, first elevator, first escalator, first swimming pool, and even his first time on an airplane have all happened very quickly and easily for him. He has trusted us each step of the way. It is quite amazing to watch.

On Wednesday, however, I saw a new test of his bravery as we took him to a doctor’s appointment. The standard protocol for all international adoptions is a medical exam before departure. This included x-rays, blood work, and saliva tests. He did not shed any tears and simply followed the instructions all morning long.

As parents, our first thought was of Zeke’s bravery. I started thinking, isn’t this how we are challenged in Scripture. We are called to have a childlike faith (Matthew 18:3) but that faith is not to come without bravery. This is why Joshua is given the challenge to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9).

This can be difficult but remember that this kind of bravery and this kind of faith is not of our own doing, it is the very gift of God. Remember, when Joshua is told to “be strong and courageous” he is also told, “the Lord will be with him wherever he goes.”

My reminder to you today is to simply trust that the Lord will provide you with what you need to face each challenge set before you. Be brave and have faith.
